Living
There are various accommodation options available both on and off campus. Please note that most student accommodation in Germany is self-catered and generally consists of private rooms with shared kitchen and/or bathroom facilities. If you would like to live in student accommodation, we recommend applying to several halls of residence to increase your chances of securing a room. For private accommodation, we recommend using the university’s accommodation portal. Here you can find an overview of the student halls at Reutlingen University.
Moving into and out of student accommodation
Before applying for a room in a student hall of residence, please note the following:
- Rooms are generally rented for six months periods: from March to August for the summer semester and from September to February for the winter semester.
- The rooms are fully furnished.
- Rent includes utility costs (water, electricity, etc.).
- Internet access might available (either via the university network “eduroam” or an alternative network).
- A deposit and key deposit are required.
- It is not possible to collect keys or move into your room on a Saturday or Sunday. Please plan your arrival accordingly and check your tenancy agreement for details on how to move into your room.
We strongly recommend submitting accommodation applications no later than 1st December/1 June. If you have not received a room offer by the end of January/July, please contact the relevant coordinators for support in finding suitable accommodation. Please note that it is your responsibility to contact us proactively if you still require accommodation.
This information only applies to students living in halls of residence. If you are staying in private accommodation, please speak to your landlord regarding moving out procedures.
- Please contact your caretaker to discuss your moving-out plans. In most cases, you will need to arrange an appointment for your room to be inspected on your departure day. Appointments must usually be arranged at least two weeks in advance and are only possible on weekdays (Monday to Friday).
- Deposit:
- Please ensure you leave your room thoroughly cleaned and in good condition if you wish to receive your full deposit back. Any issues that arise during your stay (such as damaged or broken furniture) should be reported to the accommodation management as soon as possible, rather than waiting until you move out. If any new damage is identified during the final inspection, the repair costs will be deducted from your deposit. In most cases, the deposit will be refunded directly to your bank account. Please ensure that you provide your bank details on the form you receive when moving out.
- Please make sure that both your room and the kitchen are clean. This includes:
- cleaning the windows (inside and outside)
- thoroughly cleaning the sink and mirror
- sweeping and mopping the floors
- dusting the desk and shelves
- emptying the fridge and all shelves/drawers in the kitchen
- taking out the rubbish
- You will only receive your full deposit back if you leave your room in good condition (no damage, broken or missing furniture, etc.).
- If the accommodation management identifies any new damage, the repair costs will be deducted from your deposit.
- The deposit will be transferred directly to your bank account. Please therefore ensure that your bank details are included on the form you receive when moving out.
- If you have paid a key deposit, please ask the accommodation manager whether this amount will also be transferred to your bank account or refunded in cash.
- If you have a room in the halls of residence operated by the Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim (Pestalozzistr. 41, 63, 65, 67), please return your key directly to the accommodation management office.
