Our Motivation

Reutlingen University is one of the leading universities of applied sciences (HAWs) in the field of international and business-related academic education. Together with our 5,000 students, our goal is to shape their path to a successful, sustainable and diverse future.

Shaping the future

What will life be like in the future? And what will change for each and every one of us? We too are deeply concerned with these questions. That is why our professors at Reutlingen University explore these issues with our students. From digital work models to artificial intelligence and printable meat substitutes, together we want to shape the world of tomorrow.

Sustainable development & climate protection

Climate change and the associated scarcity of resources are the central issues of our time. In our globalised world, our actions not only affect our immediate surroundings, but also other regions of the world and future generations. We want to work on these issues with our students because we all have an impact on what the future will look like.

Internationalism

Internationalism is an integral part of our university life. Accordingly, Reutlingen University cooperates with more than 200 partner universities worldwide and approximately 20% of our students are international. Every semester, many students also go abroad to study or do an internship. To facilitate all this, the Reutlingen International Office (RIO) supports them on their way with language courses, advice on finding the right partner university and much more.

Diversity & inclusion

Diversity brings our university to life. People with different backgrounds, ideas and perspectives come together here to shape teaching, research and campus life. For us, this diversity is not only enriching, but also the foundation for innovation, respect and mutual learning. Equality and inclusion shape our attitude – they create space for encounters, exchange and development.

At our university, we live and experience diversity. Respect for the individual shapes our actions. In research and teaching, we learn from each other and create new things together. We follow our conviction that innovation arises where different perspectives and ideas inspire each other. The diversity of people makes our campus vibrant. It strengthens our democracy and society.

Prof. Dr. Stephan Seiter

Vice-President for Research and Transfer

[Translate to English:]

Diversity encompasses many dimensions that help define our identity. As professor and DEI team member at our university, my goal is to create opportunities where everyone on campus can come together to learn how to live diversity and build a stronger, safer, fairer, values-driven democratic society. This is a safe campus where we can have constructive discussions to shape a better future together.

Prof. Ph.D. Yoany Beldarrain

Professor at ESB Business School

Diversity is what drives us – it inspires, connects and gives rise to new ideas. As a lecturer and Senate Commissioner for Ethics, I experience every day how different perspectives enrich our university. Our campus is characterised by the diversity of our students and staff, who make the university what it is: a place of respect, encounters and shared growth. At Reutlingen University, we create spaces where diversity is lived and creativity and innovation are fostered – in teaching, research and interaction.

Prof. Dr. Maud H. Schmiedeknecht

Senate Officer for Ethics

For me, diversity means seeing differences as a strength. Our diverse university community offers everyone the opportunity to discover new perspectives, promote mutual respect and learn from one another. Open exchange between people of different backgrounds, cultures and ways of thinking leads to innovation and mutual understanding.

Lucca Gambetta Revilla

Student at ESB Business School

Reutlingen University sees itself as a place where diversity is lived and shaped. People from different countries, disciplines and walks of life come together to learn from each other and create something new together. Even in interdisciplinary subjects such as medical informatics, we see how enriching diversity can be: when everyone has experienced how other ways of thinking can be enriching, things usually work out better and the best solutions emerge.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Oliver Burgert

Dean of the School of Informatics

Reutlingen University is characterised by people from diverse cultures and disciplines. Our campus reflects the diversity of all members of the university community. The university stands for respectful, open coexistence – regardless of gender, origin, religion or social group. Living diversity means understanding the university as a place of respect, encounters and different perspectives. Diversity, visible in creativity, innovation, practical cooperation and scientific discourse, brings our campus to life, promotes democracy and contributes to a humane and strong society.

Prof. Dr. Gabriela Tullius

Professorin an der Fakultät Informatik

Together for success

We support students in their everyday life by providing them with numerous (study-related) services and extracurricular course offers . First-year students, for instance, receive important preparatory information on what to expect from their studies during the "staRT Wochen". Naturally, we also provide students with a variety of training courses from different areas to ensure we continously work toward our common success.
