Glossary

Many university-specific and administrative terms are highly specialised and often cannot be found in standard dictionaries or translation tools. To assist staff at Reutlingen University with translating such terms and to promote consistency in language use, this glossary has been developed. The university has adopted British English as its standard.

The glossary is a living document and is continuously expanded by the Institute for Foreign Languages. It is not intended to be exhaustive.

Hochschule

Da es im Englischen keine einheitliche Übersetzung für 'Hochschule' gibt, muss man je nach Kontext etwas anders formulieren, z.B. 'das deutsche Hochschulwesen' = 'the German Higher Education System'; 'die Universitäten und andere Hochschulen' = 'the (traditional) universities and other institutions of Higher Education' bzw '...and other degree-awarding institutions'
