Preparation and integration into the German job market

Reutlingen University is launching a new mentoring programme specifically for its international students in the coming winter semester. The aim of the programme is to facilitate career entry, clarify cultural and technical issues and thus actively contribute to international students staying in Germany for the long term.

The focus is on students in the Faculties of Computer Science and Engineering, but there are also a large number of international students at the ESB Business School in particular who could be considered as mentees.

Scope

The plan is to start with a minimum of 3 meetings in one semester.

  1. Introductory meeting (online/presence) with clarification of expectations
  2. Visit of the mentor at the workplace (if possible)
  3. Final meeting (online/presence), further steps
  4. At the end, we invite all tandems to a get-together at Reutlingen University. In principle, this would also be possible at one of the participating companies.
    The 1st date is 13 February 2025.

Topics

The topics are not predetermined and are not restricted by us. The focus is on questions about starting a career and everyday life in Germany as well as clarifying career goals and applications.

Matching

In the application form, we ask the mentee and the mentor a few questions. The answers enable us to form a suitable tandem. This is done using human intelligence and it is not always possible to fulfil all requests, although experience has shown that students are more demanding than mentors. With each round, we will gain experience and optimise the matching process.
