Graduate Survey

Reutlingen University surveys all graduates in different ways:

  • There are graduation surveys which all graduates receive after completing their studies and which are conducted by Reutlingen University itself.
  • There is the annual survey of all graduates of the previous examination year on their completed studies at Reutlingen University and their (professional) career. Reutlingen University and many other universities in Baden-Württemberg commission the Institute for Applied Statistics (ISTAT) to conduct this graduate survey.

The information obtained through these surveys is of great importance for the university and our quality management. The experiences of former students can contribute significantly to the further development and systematic improvement of the degree programmes.

Among other things, graduates are asked about the following topics:

  • Satisfaction with their studies at Reutlingen University
  • Career entry and current employment
  • Application of the qualifications acquired during the degree programme

In addition to the regular teaching evaluation and other surveys during and at the end of the degree programme, the graduate survey is a further tool for quality assurance in teaching and learning and is implemented operationally by the Quality Management Office for Teaching and Learning.

Your data will be handled in accordance with the privacy policy.

Concept and aim

Since 2021, the graduate survey at Reutlingen University has been part of the nationwide "Kooperationsprojekt Absolventenstudien" (KOAB project) and is coordinated by the Institute for Applied Statistics (ISTAT). The KOAB project is a scientific research project in which more than 60 universities participate and in which the questionnaire of the graduate survey was developed.

Within the framework of the project, about 70,000 university graduates are surveyed annually about their career path. Each participating university receives its individual results and national comparative values.

Current survey

Graduates of the examination year 2020 with a graduation date between 01.09.2019 and 31.08.2020.

This link will take you to the questionnaire via a data-secure and anonymous online access. You can take part in the survey using the personal access code provided in the e-mail cover letter. It is possible to interrupt the answering of the questions at any time and continue at a later time. The access code must be kept for this purpose.

The survey will be open until 31 January 2022.

Results & Reports

The results and reports of the survey will be published here in aggregated, anonymised form after the survey has been completed.

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions.

Why should I take part in the survey?

Because only you can provide information about your career and assess from your perspective to what extent the knowledge and skills acquired at the university can be used professionally.

And it is precisely this information that is of great interest to our quality management. It helps us to keep pace with the constantly changing demands on higher education and to systematically improve.

Among other things, the survey results flow directly into the further development of our study programmes and thus contribute to permanent quality improvement.

Who can take part in the survey?

All graduates will receive an email from us 1 to 2 years after graduation. Only with this cover letter and the personal access code provided, can you take part in the survey online.

How do I access the questionnaire?

The survey takes place online. In the e-mail you received, you will find the link to the questionnaire as well as your personal access code, which you will need to register. Please pay attention to upper and lower case when entering the access code.

It is possible to interrupt answering the questions at any time and continue at a later point in time. You must keep the personal access code for this purpose.

What about anonymity?

All information is recorded anonymously and treated confidentially in accordance with data protection regulations.

Even if you have an individual access code, your information in the online survey and the access code are not connected and no conclusions can be drawn about your person based on your information.

The results are evaluated and published collectively. In the case of possible conclusions about individual persons (due to an insufficient number of cases), the answers given will not be included in the evaluation.

After completion of the survey (February of the following year), the data required for the survey will be deleted by Reutlingen University.

Why may my mail data be used?

Mail/address data may be used within the university if it serves the fulfilment of academic tasks and/or the fulfilment of the university's tasks.

Both are fulfilled within the scope of the graduate study:

  • The graduate study at Reutlingen University is part of a nationwide scientific research project coordinated by ISTAT. ISTAT evaluates data from graduates in anonymised form for scientific purposes.
  • The results of the study are used for research and quality assurance of teaching and studies within the university.

The use of your personal data for the graduate survey takes place within the framework of quality assurance and the fulfilment of the university's tasks (research and teaching) on the basis of Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. c DSGVO in conjunction with § 5 Para. 4 LHG; § 12 Para. 1 LHG.

The processing of the information and personal data provided by you in the online survey is based on your voluntary participation and thus on Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a DSGVO. You can revoke your consent with effect for the future at any time. To do so, you only need to provide us with information about yourself so that we can clearly allocate the data record and delete it.

In addition, there is a data protection agreement between ISTAT and Reutlingen University. This regulates the handling of the survey results.

What are my rights?

As a data subject, you can exercise the rights granted by the EU GDPR at any time:

  • Right to access, rectify and delete your personal data (Art. 15-17 EU-DSGVO).
  • Right to restrict the processing of your data (Art. 18 EU-DSGVO)
  • Right to object to future processing of data concerning you (Art. 21 EU-DSGVO)
  • Right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority under data protection law, for example with the data protection officer responsible for the university (Art. 77 EU-DSGVO)
What role does ISTAT play?

The Institute for Applied Statistics (ISTAT) coordinates the overall project (Kooperationsprojekt Absolventenstudien, KOAB). It has an advisory function in the development of the questionnaire, controls the process of further development of the survey instrument and coordinates the network of universities participating in the KOAB project.

ISTAT conducts the online survey and provides the evaluations to the universities. In addition, ISTAT analyses the data of all cooperating HEIs and produces scientific evaluations, which in turn form the basis for publicly accessible research results (without reference to individual HEIs).

Will the results be published anywhere?

After the survey is completed, the results of Reutlingen University will be published on the homepage in aggregated form.

The results of the survey will additionally be scientifically evaluated by ISTAT for all universities participating in the KOAB project. These evaluations are the basis for publicly accessible research results.
