Below you will find English courses beginning at the B1 level. 

Here you will find other workshops in the English language.

English Refresher (B1-B2): SoSe 2023

Course contents are based on level B1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).  A range of current general and business-related topics forms the basis for reading and listening exercises, for discussions and written tasks as well as for selected grammar exercises. The main focus is on improving students’ key communicative skills and furthering their intercultural competence.

A variety of teaching methods is used, depending on the topic: lecture-style instruction, individual tasks, partner and group work, role-plays.

General & Business English, Focus on Speaking (B2-C1): SoSe 2023

This course is taught in three parallel groups. Priority will be given to students taking the bachelor’s programme in Textile Technology/Textile Management, but students from other programmes may also register if places are available. The course mainly focusses on spoken English, with a view to giving a presentation in English on a topic arising from students’ degree programmes, and includes rhetorical and psychological as well as linguistic elements.

Relevant vocabulary is practiced. Grammar will be revised as necessary.

Prerequisite: Level B2-C1 (approx. 8-9 years school English).

English for a Semester Abroad (B2 - C1): SoSe 2023

This course is aimed at students planning to spend a semester in an English-speaking environment, either studying or in an internship.

All four language skills are covered: Reading of academic texts both for gist and in detail; Writing for essays / reports and lecture notes; Listening exercises based on a variety of different accents; Speaking in both academic and social contexts; TOEFL exercises; intercultural topics.

Please note: it is currently NOT possible to take a TOEFL test at Reutlingen University.

Discussion & Debate (B2-C1): SoSe 23

This course is intended for students who wish to refresh and improve their English skills, particularly in the areas of listening and speaking. Current topics from business, science, politics, and culture form the basis for discussions (moderated in part by the participants), short presentations and debate. You will widen your English vocabulary and learn how to present your views effectively. There will be some written tasks, and grammar will be revised as necessary.

2ECTS-Credits earned through regular attendance, active participation, a presentation with response to the subsequent discussion, and an indivdually lead and moderated  debate.

Scientific & Technical English (B1-B2): SoSe 23

This course is aimed at students on technical and scientific programmes. The course contents are based on levels B1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference. Using material from fields including mechanical engineering, mechatronics, chemistry, biology and informatics, you will practise reading scientific tests and writing essays, scripts and reports. Listening exercises will include a variety of accents, and you will practise speaking in an academic context. Grammar topics from levels B1 and B2.1 will be revised. 

2ECTS-Credits earned through regular attendance, active participation, intermediate tests, & final exam.
