The story of Reutlingen University goes back to the year 1855, when the state of Württemberg, the textile industry and the town of Reutlingen jointly founded a Weaving School. This later became known as the Royal Württemberg Technical College, an international training centre for the textile industry; for a time it bore the name State Technical College, and then in 1971 it received the title University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule).
Nowadays Reutlingen University is well-respected on both the national and international level. On its modern campus it offers practically-oriented degree programmes in fields ranging from International Business Studies to Informatics, and from Technology to Design. Key characteristics of life at Reutlingen University include the international nature of the degree programmes, the practical orientation of course contents, close contact between students and academic staff, the opportunity for students to participate in research and development projects and, last but not least, the compact campus where everything and everybody is within easy reach. Tradition and innovation characterise the wide range of programmes offered at the University in the five Schools of Applied Chemistry, ESB, Informatics, Technology and Textiles & Design. Over 30 degree programmes are available at Bachelor's and Master's level.
Close cooperation with industry by means of practical study semesters, degree theses written in-company, and lecturers with extensive industrial experience all combine to ensure the highly practical nature of our degree programmes and guarantee a lively two-way transfer of knowledge. Students become acquainted at an early stage with the processes and procedures of industry and business. This paves the way for their smooth entry, in due course, into professional life.
