Jobs and work permits

Students from EU states do not need a work permit to work in Germany.  Non-EU students are allowed to work for 90 days or 180 half-days per year, excluding time spent during an industrial placement. Depending on the type of job you find, the number of hours worked and the amount of money earned, you may be liable to pay taxes and social security contributions.

Information on job offers, holiday jobs, internships and other offers from companies is available here job database and here joblinks. Further information may also be available in the individual Schools.

Non-German graduates from German universities, including non-EU nationals, are allowed to stay in Germany for one year after graduation to look for work. If they fail to find work during this period they must leave the country. If however they find work they will receive a residence permit restricted to this employment. After two years' employment or three years' residence they will be entitled to a work permit without being restricted to a specific company.  For further details click here
