Civil Registration (Anmeldung)
Immediately after you arrive and receive your room key, room number, and semester address, you will have to go to the Residents' Registration Office (Einwohnermeldeamt / Bürgeramt) to register your address. When you have registered you will be given a Confirmation of Registration (Meldebestätigung), which you should keep in a safe place. When you leave Reutlingen at the end of your studies, but also if you change your address while you are here, you will need to inform the Residents' Registration Office.
Non-EU students will also have to go to the Foreigners' Office (Ausländeramt) in the Reutlingen City Hall (Rathaus) to confirm your status, as well as later if you wish to extend your visa etc.
When you go downtown, you will need to fill out an official city form (possibly also available in advance from the International Coordinator in your School, or from the International Office) and bring with you the following documents:
- your valid passport (with entry visa if necessary) or - for EU citizens - your identity card, which must be valid for the entire period to be spent in Germany
- 2 passport-size photos
- valid health insurance
- proof of income that you are able to finance the whole of your study period (Finanzierungsnachweis).
- If you are a scholarship holder you should bring the original certificates with you.
If necessary, your School Coordinator or the International Office can help with filling out the German-language forms.
